I am only carrying basic sharpening supplies to get you going. These are what I carry in my carving kit to touch my blades up as I go. If you get a big nick in your blade you will need more aggressive abrasives.
Box board from cereal or cracker boxes also works great for stropping. Just cut them in strips 2-3" wide, put them on a flat, firm, non slip surface and apply honing compound. You can also wrap them around a dowel to strop the inside of curved blades.
