11" long, 2 3/8" wide

This gouge was designed when I was working on adz prototypes. This is a much simpler tool. With a heavy mallet, it works almost as fast as an adze but with more control. Also, because the sweep is flattened on the bottom, you can use it like a paring gouge for a smooth finish. The disadvantage of using a gouge is that both hands are occupied with the tool so you need to have some way to hold the bowl while you work.

The bowl in the images was carved completely with this gouge inside and outside, except the chip carving on the rim.
